High Sandra;

Excellent initiative! Here at our place most youngsters start off in the barn learning how to handle horses, stall management, care, feeding, water, and all matters related to proper horse maintenance and hygiene all from the ground up. Their daily jobs are not complete until all horses are properly stabled or let out into the field, and the stall floors shining bright. They are dedicated young horsemen and women whose passion revolves around horses; this I think is the key element. I would venture to say that one should perhaps not cross too much into areas where full professional care is required, although elementary first aid is very useful. However, there is a very fine line here. No one can replace a certified veterinarian, and I would add, let us not forget what occurred in Palm Beach not long ago. Here in Canada our own initiative will take us to have exchanges between our students and petiseros from Argentina. This I believe is a key component in any program for there is little doubt that much is to be learned from those whose expertise has become a living. Much like learning to play polo from players from Argentina. Like any other profession, it must be recognized as such, and your efforts are admirable. More to come on this from our own experience here in Canada.

Good luck!

Ian

Dear Luis,
nevertheless I think it is important to teach about how to care polo horses.
Taming or breaking horses is a clinic and a profession themself.
To get a good polo horse first you need a good horse tamer (domador) and second you need a good groom (peticero) to mantain the best conditions for the horses in sport.
To be a good player it is good to know how to care a horse but I don't think it is necesary to know how to break a horse. That's another work.
I still hope that this - only one course for few people - will help to get better standards and knowledge between grooms and may encourage others like you and Luis Lagomarsino to continue this path.
Best wishes to Argentina and all aficionados
:-)
