I think that in a few years it will be a lux to buy an argentine polo horse!
airplane transport prices
tax from argentina customs
difficulties to find a good horse in argentina and to know how old is he and how he play and with wich player (professional?)
rapport quality/price?
price market are growing those last years in argentina
and finally with the difficulties to breed and the probability to have a good polo horse if i have a good one i am not going to sell him!!!
I think that professional players today dont bring in europe their best horses!!!!!! it was different 10 years ago.
statistics say that 70% horses playing are TB! in france you have a choice of 1000 TB each year exit from the racetrack from 600/1000 euros with top origins of course all of them are not good for polo but try to find a good 6 years raza polo argentino ......good luck!
I think we can breed polo ponies all everywhere in the world the problem is to find a good domador and petisero and also take our time to put them to maturity.
I am sure that already top players bring top TB horses from england or france to argentina!
training top TB in europe to export to argentina!
May be it will be the polo business for the Future.
(sorry for my english!)

Oh my god... I was already complaining to myself I had missed this discussion (on a topic I love) even before I read this phrase
Laurence, you are absolutely something. I guess it´s too late to share an opinion now (maybe because the discussion cme to an end six months ago, maybe because it´s 10 pm here), but I need to tell you that your first reply to Rey was brilliant in its sound knowledge of the polo argentine pony..it´s roots and it´s present
well, Laurence, horses off the track might or might not have been exposed to drugs - BUT most of them have been exposed to injuries (from being pushed too hard too young) and a lot of them will have been exposed to brutality.
We've had a few - got them all to play, but gave up on 2 because old injuries meant they'd never play well and stay sound.
My particular little darling (4-year old, Argie TB dam, US TB sire) has spent nearly a year of love and care before he reached a point where he is physically and emotionally sound to play. He was totally unrideable and a complete emotional wreck when I got him, and even now hates going near gates - which I assume remind him of the track, as i had been warned that they'd had trouble loading him for the start of races. He is a bit of an exception, as I was also repeatedly warned to "be careful, cos we really pushed him", but if you do find an exceptional horse, that's not still racing, you can rest assured they've tried everything they could think of to get him to win. And they don't give up easily!
The big difference is that, where I live, stabling is relatively cheap, we have a great yard with a great dressage/showjumping trainer (who happens to be a dear friend) and a team of grooms who're able to make an off-track TB into a horse - before we even consider trying to make a polo pony.
Rey, what´s this attachment about? Do you own Paris (the prefix). Is Marino with you? Drop me some information, since I am looking for new outside stallion services for this season. Un abrazo
No it's just an interesting document to know origins from polo horses palermo 2001 from Dr Heguy !
tell me which type and origins of stallion you want and may be we have that in france !
Luis Martel have some fillies from a son of polyglote who give good results may be it could be interesting to speak with him?
in any case if i can help you don't hesit
Philippe
I am only looking for ervices of a stallion, not a stallion itself .. and it wouldn´t be economicwise (?) to bring the mares over to get some atention!
Back to prices Rey, the auction at Ellerstina was incredible, for mares they paid from 45,000 USD to 145,000 USD, for stallions less than that around 60,000 per each one, embryos were quite expensive as well. Gonzalo Pieres organized a fantastic show, with cocktails, "asado", a wonderful dinner, next week we have the Aguada auction, I have friends from Europe, which they will buy some mares, the Novillo's have excellent horses as well.
