Polo Contacts Worldwide

Hello,
I am looking for recommendations for a polo professional who would enjoy the challenge of coaching someone from a competive sports background in polo and polo riding.

I am a novice rider based in the Surrey / Hampshire area of the UK, who loves the sport and shares a passion for the game. I am having some general riding lessons and gym work to supplement a basic grounding in the sport. Having had some initial setbacks, I am now ready to target and progress into club chukkas.

Have played team sport at a reasonable level, I feel that the opportunity to work with a coach on a one-to-one basis, in a proactive and organised manner, would provide an interesting challenge and reward both parties.

I work during the week and believe everything else should be for fun, so for me polo should be part of that enjoyment, not my life, so whilst I appreciate that others may be looking to be treated as a potential patron or take on the commitment of ponies, neither would be right for me right now.

So if you have been where I am, or you have any ideas, thoughts or suggestions, it would be most welcome.

Best regards,

Colber

Hi Colber

I was initially suprised to see your post as I know that you have spoken to at least half a dozen good polo instructors looking for what appear to be in truth free polo lessons. Im therfore not that suprised that you are still struggling to find "someone that would enjoy the challenge" of coaching you! A lot of polo players have played sport to a "reasonable level"` in the past but that does not make you or I so rewarding to work with that it should be cheaper or free. Its important to accept the reality that polo costs money to learn and to play.

How can it be "rewarding for both parties" if you are reluctant to pay the instructor for his time and the use of his beloved horses that you no doubt expect to ride? I wonder if you expect to get paid for the work you do? Perhaps you can explain In what way would it be rewarding for the polo coach you are looking for ?

Sallie Anne,
Thanks for putting the time aside to respond to my post.

I do think you have misunderstood the approach to accelerated 'total' sport coaching and training programme and as such, I do find your response to be of rather limited value.

I appreciate your concern that I work with the appropriate professionals and can assure you that I have had several 'positive' communications on this from players, club professionals and coaches who understand the concept and have offered constructive responses and professional support.

As a result of this, I am currently working with an outstanding club and highly professional individuals on a structured and continued basis.

I trust all is well with you,

Colber Adamian - Thomas

Morning Colber

There has been no misunderstanding about your approach to learning polo - call it as many fancy names as you feel comfortable with - coaches still require enough money to earn a living in order to pay for their wonderfull horses.

I am not suprised that you found my response of limited value as it was not the one you were looking for. However in time hopefully you can reflect and appreciate my straight forward honesty.

There are many excellent polo instructors and outstanding clubs in the Uk. I am only happy and relieved that you have found a club or coach that is financially able and willing to accomodate your unique approach and hope that it will be as rewarding for them as it undoubtably will be for you.

Wishing you a great season

Hey Cober,

If you’ve learned anything on this sports, it’s that your success as a polo player depends on much more than how well you can carry the ball. The game strategy, teamwork, and decision-making. There are several skills and techniques that’s you’ll want to have developed, if not perfected, so that you can tap into them when you need to. I think in order to improve your overall game the best place for you to go is Argentina, in our polo club the school gives lessons al throughout the year. Also, I feel I must congratulate you for the gym work, most of the players they forget to go the gym they just play without any previuos physical preparation and this is not good at all. Palo Alto will offer you a personal trainer to continue your rutine once you arrive and before every single one polo practice.

here you have a look at our programs

Hi Ed,
Thank you. I have been having some lessons at Ascot Park and have started playing academy chukkas , which has been been working well thus far.

I am considering options moving forward and was thinking of coming over to watch a match before the end of the outdoor season. Perhaps we could catch up when I am over?

Colber.
