Warmest wishes to the great Javier Novillo Astrada from the PCW community

I understand that several Argentine newspapers have recently published the news that the great Javier Novillo Astrada, who is one of the most outstanding players in the world at 9 goals, is now battling cancer. On behalf of all PCW members I'd like to offer him our warmest goodwill and our best wishes. Our hearts go out to him, his wife Delfina, his four children and the rest of the Novillo Astrada family.

I had the great pleasure of meeting with Eduardo “Taio” Novillo Astrada and Santi, Javier's first cousin, during my trip to Buenos Aires last December. Not only are they polo royalty, with the iconic club in Open Door - 'La Aguada', they are a wonderfully warm family and I know I can speak for all of us in wishing them all great strength to support Javier to a successful recovery.

Very timely good wishes and encouragement Hugh, I have known Taio since the early 80's from my days in Bs. As., together they all constitute one of the most outstanding polo families Argentina is blessed to have, I join you in wishing them all great strength and courage, and for Javier much faith and perseverance in battling his affliction, and the will to overcome.

Gran abrazo a Javier y a Taio, Ian

I also had the distinct pleasure of meeting Javier a few year ago during one of the Gold Cup matches played at Black Bears.I would like to add my best wishes to him. There are fewer people in 'high goal' polo that have the humility and warmth that the Novillo Astrada family do. I realise this sort of diagnosis can be very difficult to cope with however,I pray that God gives them the strength to get through this most testing time.

Once again my thoughts and prayers will continue to be with you Delphina and the your lovely kids, Javier.

Dear Javier
We have never met, I am social member of a polo club in the UK
I felt I had to write and tell you my story. I developed the same feeling in my left leg and then it would collapse and feel like a wet rag, this was in 1994. I also developed a loud whooshing noise in my ears for a few minutes before this happened.
I was so busy building a new business to support my two children as I had parted from my husband and was completely broke.
I eventually was diagnosed with a brain tumour that was pressing on my brain stem. I was rushed into hospital and a 12 hour operation was performed on me. They told me could die under the anaesthetic. God and his angels were with me, I survived
I was told I must not even answerer the phone for 3 months as an upsetting call would raise my blood pressure and I could die. No way could I do this. The following week I had a meting with a TV presenter about my ice shows, from my hospital bed. I left hospital early and was back at work within a month much to the disgust of the medical profession
I went on to recover in leaps and bounds

This is not to tell you how clever I am am, this is to tell you, you are much braver than me and if I can do it so can you. My story is to give you hope
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.
Good luck you can make it, I did and that was March 16th 1994 I am now 67 and in excellent health

I read the interview to javier Novillo Astrada in " La Nacion" few weeks ago. I was quite moved and touched by this honesty and fortitude. We know this family quite well, and we love the Novillo"s polo way of playing and we know how wonderful people they are, so we support all the good wishes sent to himin this page and all the prayers for his sake and recovery. The sons of Taio and Veronica are amongst the best players in this country, and they are one of the few teams to behave always as gentlemen. I find that Javier is quite courageous and a valiant guy, hi will overcome his brain tumour with Gods help and all the support that he is receveing everywhere, including in PCW, which shows that still are people with sense and sensibility, Dolores.
