67th FIP Ambasadors Cup in Malaysia

The 67th FIP Ambassadors Cup polo tournament was a great success. It featured Malaysia’s polo heritage and love for this wonderful sport. Malaysians love their polo. This was apparent to the FIP Ambassadors throughout the tour.

Most of the Ambassadors were here for 8 or 9 days. During that time, they played at the Royal Pahang Polo Club, Putrajaya Equestrian Park and Royal Selangor Polo Club. They also visited Bukit Kiara, Ranhill-Tanamera, Central Market, Petaling Street, the Lanchang Elephant… Continue

Sumana’s Mongol Madness

“On 22 August in the year 2009 twenty-five courageous riders will mount their steeds amidst the ruins of the Great Khaan’s ancient capital Kharkhorin, to face a gruelling 1000 km race across the empty wilderness of Mongolia. This will be no ordinary horse race. The Mongol Derby is not a test of the horse’s speed, but the rider’s skill, endurance and the toughness of the skin between their legs. And by Jove will it put that to the test..”

My team-mate from the 1995 SEA Games team, Sumana… Continue

Zack's Tacking

I’ve been having fun at Zack’s Tack. I’m in the shop every day and sometimes am manning it myself. It feels great to be back in retail. It’s been a few years since my last saddlery shop and I am enjoying reconnecting with people at a retail level.

I started in the saddlery industry in 1987 with a retail shop in Singapore. Not surprisingly some of the brands I introduced back then are still brands I am associated with today. I guess it proves that a quality product never dies. I am a great belie… Continue

Happy Hookahs

We are now known as the Really Happy Hookahs as the Hookahs Auction alone raised RM76,500 for Riding for the Disabled Association of Malaysia. The nine lots were sold in quick order by polo commentator John Bell, who showed off his auctioneering skills.

The RM76,500 raised in the auction far exceeded last year’s amount of RM42,000 from 10 lots. With income from the sale of dinner tickets, raffles, lucky dip and outright donations, the Hookahs Tournament has hit the RM100,000 target of donations… Continue

Rebel Rousing

Surprisingly we beat Jogo Polo again in our final match of the Royal Pahang National League tournament. Every time we win a match we come off the field shaking our heads and asking each other “How the heck did we do that?”. Our 3rd place finish got us 4 league points. We keep laughing because we didn’t expect to win any league points at all, so four pretty much makes our season. http://www.equestrian.com.my/blog/polo/?p=81

Hi Peter

Saw your mongol race post - wow. Or is that ouch? Why not try the next best thing and come and play 'tribal' with us at Shandur Festival this July. Yes play - not watch. No rules, no umpires - just the way polo was played by that Ghengis Khan chap from the races.

Hi Peter, we met at Morrinsville NZ when you managed the team down here in New Zealand last year. I supplied most of the horses at that match. I was wondering if you had a contact numbers or email address for Huzaini Yunos? i would like to get in touch with him to invite him to come down to NZ if he wants to play some polo when ever he likes. He seemed a nice guy and very good on the horses, actually that entire team was very good on the stock. Look forward to hearing back from you. Ross Ainsley
